What Is an NFA Class 3 Firearm?
Class 3 arms are weapons regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) (Title II). They include:
Machine guns: Firearms that continuously fire rounds as long as the trigger is held.
Short-Barreled Rifles (SBRs): Rifles with a barrel shorter than 16 inches or an overall length under 26 inches.
Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBSs): Shotguns with a barrel shorter than 18 inches or an overall length under 26 inches.
The National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) requires the registration, with the federal government, of fully-automatic firearms (termed “machine guns”), rifles and shotguns that have an overall length under 26 inches, rifles with a barrel under 16 inches, shotguns with a barrel under 18 inches, and firearm sound suppressors (termed “silencers”).
