What Is an AR-15 Mag Release?
The AR-15 magazine release is a mechanism just in front of the trigger guard. Until it is depressed, it holds the mag securely in the rifle. When depressed, it releases the magazine from the firearm, allowing for quick reloading. It's a critical component for proper weapon function, enabling rapid magazine changes.
Magazine Release Positioning
The magazine release on an AR-style rifle or pistol is typically a button or lever positioned on the right side, near the trigger guard, making it easily accessible for the user's support hand.
What Is an Ambi Mag Release?
The BATTLEARMS® ambi mag release is an ambidextrous control that allows swift magazine changes from either side of the rifle or pistol, making it ideal for left-handed shooters. The ambi mag release is typically on the left side of the lower receiver, opposite the Mil-Spec right side magazine release button.
Magazine Release/Catch Mechanism Breakdown
The AR-15 magazine release/catch mechanism consists of a button, a catch, a spring, and a roll pin. When the magazine release button is pressed, it compresses the spring, which in turn disengages the catch from the magazine, allowing it to drop free.
Magazine Release Button: This is the external button or lever located on the lower receiver that the user presses to release the magazine.
Magazine Catch: This internal component engages with a recess in the magazine, holding it in place.
Magazine Catch Spring: This spring provides the necessary tension to keep the magazine catch engaged with the magazine.
Magazine Catch Roll Pin: This pin secures the entire magazine catch assembly to the lower receiver.
